Computer mapping can help fine tune both the selection of a site and the subsequent management of the plantation.

To determine the best site and olive varieties, Leon takes measurements of soil pH, friability, clay/moisture retention properties and determines trace element needs amongst other information.

Soil and irrigation profiles are compiled using data obtained from a series of pit holes carefully selected to give all information at the lowest cost to a client.

The cost per pit hole is around $133. All information is collated on a computer progam which forms the basis of the final report and recommendations for the client. Note: Pit holes are dug using an excavator or backhoe

The computerized mapping program provides the basis for plant selection, spacing and row orientation, the installation of irrigation systems and can be important in determining the use of fertilizers.

The computerized map will give the grower a much more accurate picture of the farm to aid long term management.
